Ansaldo Nuclear Engineering Services Limited

Ansaldo NES implements web portal Xactio to support delivery of sustainable 21st Century Supply Chain (SC21)

Leading UK Electronics Company Case study

Ansaldo NES specialise in design, manufacture, assembly, test, installation and commissioning of bespoke solutions for nuclear decommissioning, new build and defence markets.

Specialised facilities in Wolverhampton, Risley and Beckermet, unique capabilities and over 60 years’ nuclear experience ideally position Ansaldo NES to take on a wide variety of contracts on a national basis.

Ansaldo NES is using XACTIO, the supply chain portal developed to provide a platform to support delivery of SC21. The development is in its first phase of implementation but is already delivering benefits from improvements in transaction efficiency, non conformance reporting and communication withthe supply chain. XACTIO is therefore seen as one of the key tools in the delivery of the Ansaldo NES Preferred Supplier Programme.

As a key supplier to the nuclear and defence sectors, Ansaldo NES has placed a high focus on delivering supply chain efficiency supported by initiatives such as the 21st Century Supply Chain (SC21). Development of a Continuous Sustainable Improvement Plan (CSIP) for SC21 is ongoing and provides a platform for sustainable growth and efficiency. Delivering supply chain improvement is critical to the continued competitiveness of the UK nuclear decommissioning, defence and nuclear new build markets.

Supply Chain Management

Ansaldo NES has developed processes and procedures that ensure that its supply chain meets the quality and performance

expectations of its customers and as part of this development has implemented the XACTIO Portal in order to monitor, control and report on supply chain activity. The portal implementation is designed to address the following key requirements:

The management of the supply chain approval status – Through the Questionnaire Module, Ansaldo NES will control the approval process of all new additions to the supply chain and manage the approval status and application of the existing supply chain through commodity segregation, criticality classification status and QMS approval status The ability to communicate to the supply chain Request for Quotation (RFQ), and flow down of all associated requirements in a controlled, secure and consistent manner - Ansaldo NES worked closely with Xactio's developers to establish a customised solution (RFQ Module) that enabled the communication of RFQ and full flow down of requirements (specifications, drawings, Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) etc), the capture and analysis of supplier responses, leading to an informed decision on purchase order placement. The module allows for numerous suppliers to be communicated in one transaction on the portal, tracked changes and traceability of all information recorded and the management reporting of process and strategy performance.

Supply Chain Management  THE CHALLENGE

To develop processes and procedures that ensure that the Ansaldo NES supply chain meets the quality and performance expectations of its customers.

Xactio supply chain software  THE SOLUTION

The introduction of the XACTIO Portal is enabling Ansaldo NES to make the transition from working on an ‘approved supplier’ listing to a performance based ‘preferred supplier’ approach, which will enable Ansaldo NES to realise improvement in “Total Cost of Acquisition”.
